There was a real buzz of excitement as children from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 arrived at Carnarvon Primary School on Monday to race in the ‘Cross Country Event’. The race saw children from Carnarvon, Robert Miles, Orston, East Bridgford, Aslockton and of course Cropwell Bishop Primary School children competing in individual year group races, in some catergories racing against up to 30 other children! The Year 3 and 4 children ran ½ mile track and Year 5 and 6 children ran 2 laps of the track completing a mile run in total. It was a beautiful day, but very hot, but this did not discourage the children who all kept going and persevered to finish their races. The end results were really close with many children finishing neck and neck with other races, all the children showed real determination, found their pace and kept going! Particular congratulations go to Jasmine Tyler who finished 3rd and Chloe Smith who came 2nd in the Year 4 girls race, and to Olly Jones-Wilkinson who sped round the track and triumphantly came 1st in the Year 6 Boys race. Well done to all the racers, we are looking forward to the next race!
The school dance group had a fantastic time performing in the ‘Rushcliffe Dance Showcase’ alongside 100 dancers from local primary and secondary schools and dance groups. The showcase took place in a packed arena, where the children performed two contemporary and jazz pieces. We were incredibly proud of the group’s performance and the professional manner they approached the evening. It was a great opportunity to see the children dance in a large space with professional lighting and sound. The children really enjoyed the experience and all their hard work over the past few months and lots of practising paid off with two amazing dances. Well done to all the dancers and to Vicki for their hard work.

Today the school was visitored by some of our friends from St.Francis Xavier’s High School in Siolim, Goa, India. The teachers from the school spent the morning in Class 3 where they showed them how to do Mehndi Patterns and then they presented an assembly to the school and members of the Parish Council and Rev Bronwin.
Class 4 had a fantastic trip to Castleton, staying in the lovely youth hostel there over night and taking part in various activities to do with their geography based topic.
The class visited Treak Cliffe Cavern and did a walk learning about the three different types of rocks in the area. In the evening they panned for gems and were able to bring home their treasure. Thursday arrived with a good deal of rain and so we had a very soggy orieteering challenge followed by a Hat’s Game where the children found out about the different problems created by tourism for people living in Castleton.
