World Book Day – Thursday 2nd March 2017

World Book Day this year had a ‘Where’s Wally’ theme due to it being the 30th Anniversary of ‘Where’s Wally’. All of the staff and some of the children dressed up as Wally with the rest of the children dressing up as another book character. The children paraded around the hall to show off their costumes and a winner from Key Stage One and Two were chosen, each receiving a book voucher.

During the playtime the children spotted Wally hiding all around the playgrounds, for which prizes will be given out during the awards assembly tomorrow.

Pupil Parliament – Friday 24th February 2017

Our school councillors from Year 6 went to their termly meeting with other Rushcliffe schools at County Hall on Friday 24th February.

The theme of the meeting was ‘The Olympic Legacy’ and we were very fortunate to have some Olympians to answer the children’s questions about their life in sport.

We met Joanne Jackson, an amazing swimmer who won Bronze in the 400m in the 2008 Olympics. We also met Roberto Pavoni who competed in the Olympics in 2012 and who is still swimming at the highest level. A team GB physician was there too and explained her role in maximising the athletes’ performances.

It was a very interesting and enlightening session which showed the children that there was so much more to their achievements than natural ability. The dedication and commitment they had shown was overwhelming and the children were totally impressed by them.

We then discussed our future trip to London, where our councillors will be taking an educational tour of the Houses of Parliament – an amazing opportunity!

Schoolrun – Thursday 12th January 2017

‘Schoolrun’ has landed! Last Thursday our lunchtime athletics club began where we are doing a 1.5km run ‘parkrun’ style. The field has been measured and marked out so that each week we can follow the same course, and hopefully improve our own time.

The children are encouraged to aim for their personal best and to support their peers in doing so. Certificates and awards are to be given out for completing 10 runs and then beyond!

We also have an invaluable team of volunteers who marshall, time and count and who are also to be rewarded for their fabulous contribution.

Our first saw an amazing 55 runners whose enthusiasm and efforts were outstanding and a joy to see!

This morning Key Stage One and the parents were treated to an amazing music concert performed by Key Stage Two. We had singing, recorders, and the band playing, all kept together by our Music Teacher, Mrs Blackburn. Thank you to everyone that performed and a huge thank you to Mrs Blackburn for all her hard work.

Cropwell Bishop v’s Keyworth (away) – Thursday 10th November 2016

Charlie Dawn (captain), Ashton Rock, Joel Newton-Brown, Harvey Wagland, Sam Plews, Louis Spencer, Ewan Chalk, Jake Andrew, James Quinn

Charlie lead the Cropwell team out to face Keyworths team in orange, and within the first 5 minutes Ashton scored the first goal like a bullet nicely set up by Charlie and assisted by Joel’s cracking skills. Great defensive skills from Ewan kept the ball in o half and enabled Charlie to score our second goal in the 12th minute. More great skills and speed on show from Cropwell, supporting each other, talking to each other well and showing great promise. An unfortunate own goal from Keyworth took us up 3-0 but they came back with their first goal just before taking us into half time with a 3-1 score.

Cropwell team came back for a strong second half. Jake scored our 4th and 5th goals in quick succession with a supportive team build up from our goalie Harvey and Sam in defence out to Ashton in midfield and James on the wing.  Great team form!

5-1 up, we went on to test Keyworths defence with Louis demonstrating great skill and determination to score us our 6th goal. Shortly after, Jake scored his hat trick taking us to 7-1. Still on great form and reading the game well, Cropwell went onto deliver a great team effort with a pass from Ashton to Charlie who helped to set up the 8th goal for Louis for a sneaky chip in. Followed quickly by Keyworth’s 2nd goal we saw some more great midfield action from Ashton and Charlie and a final great save from Keyworths courageous goalie before the final whistle …and before it got too dark to see the ball!

A wonderful final result 8-2 from a cracking team who showed great commitment.

Well done lads!
